Community
Over the period of several weeks, a fight had been brewing between young men in different neighborhoods. After much preparation, a Support and Accountability Conference was convened and 25 people gathered, including community leaders, the young men, and others affected. People spoke about how these fights affected everyone, and how they still had high hopes for safe and welcoming neighborhoods. As part of the plan of repair, the young men teamed up for service projects first in one neighborhood, then the other. They served as tutors, spoke in anti-violence classes, and even produced an anti-violence public service announcement that aired on local radio. Not only did the process create links between the young men, it also strengthened the wider community bonds.
