What We Do
The program received its first juvenile case in December 2002 but has since expanded to adult cases and is now involved in an array of other activities.
Juvenile Program
Several sources refer young people to the program. The young person must have admitted wrongdoing and must voluntarily agree with a parent/guardian to participate. Then, a series of meetings unfolds. At the first one, staff, the young person and a parent/guardian, discuss the incident, who was affected, how, and what would be an appropriate response. Next, program staff meets the victim or others affected to learn the impact of the crime and what needs may have arisen. Finally, a Support and Accountability Conference is scheduled where all parties gather, the victim expresses the impact of the crime, the offender is held directly accountable, and the group works out a plan of repair to address victim needs. Once the offender has completed his/her obligations, the program reports back to the referral source. Evaluations of the program show promising results.
