People Make it Happen
Just as restorative justice focuses on people and relationships, this program relies on a host of dedicated folks for its wellbeing.
Task Force
From the early days of the program, we sought guidance from members of the community, from victim advocacy groups, and from criminal justice representatives. This group still assembles several times a year to shape the broad vision of the program and to offer insight into how better to serve this community. The Task Force and related committees include:
  • Honorable Robert Downer - Judge, Charlottesville General District Court
  • Honorable Susan Whitlock - Judge, Charlottesville/Albemarle Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court
  • Honorable J. L. Shannon - Judge (retired), Charlottesville/Albemarle Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court
  • Mr. J. D. Beard - Attorney, Office of the Public Defender
  • Mr. W. Ross Carew III - Assistant Director, OAR Jefferson Area Community Corrections
  • Ms. Martha Carroll - Director, 16th District Court Service Unit
  • Mr. Warner D. (David) Chapman - Commonwealth's Attorney, City of Charlottesville
